Brain Injury Awareness Month

Brain Injury Awareness Month

For more than three decades, The Brain Injury Association of America leads the nation in observing Brain Injury Awareness Month in March each year. The Brain Injury Association of Indiana joins BIAA is promoting Brain Injury Awareness.

The theme for the new 2025 campaign is “My Brain Injury Journey“.

The #MyBrainInjuryJourney public awareness campaign seeks to:

  • Grab the attention of the public by shining light on some of the lesser-known aspects about brain injury—its chronic nature, and that brain injuries look different for each individual survivor.
  • Educate the public around the complexities of brain injuries—how each one is unique, that they’re more than simply a one-time event, and that for many, these are invisible disabilities that keep others from fully understanding the entire picture, or the “real story.”
  • Open the door to a larger conversation around the CDC or CMS formally recognizing and categorizing brain injury as a chronic health condition like heart disease or diabetes.

How can I get involved with the “My Brain Injury Journey” campaign?

Become an Advocate

Advocacy is central to BIAI and BIAA’s mission and a key part of Brain Injury Awareness Month. The brain injury community has so much power when it comes to advocating for the causes that affect them. This year, we have two main causes we will be advocating for.

  • Ask your members of Congress to request support and co-sponsor the National Brain Injury Action Plan, a comprehensive federal initiative that will improve research, treatment, and long-term care for millions of Americans living with brain injuries. The National Action Plan will improve early diagnosis and treatment to prevent long-term complications, establish a National Brain Injury Registry to better track cases and outcomes, expand access to rehabilitation and community-based care to help survivors and their families, and more. Urge your members of Congress to support the National Brain Injury Action Plan.
  • Ask your members of Congress to join the Congressional Brain Injury Taskforce. The Congressional Brain Injury Taskforce (CBIT) is dedicated to raising awareness, securing funding for research and rehabilitation, and ultimately finding a cure for brain injury. Learn more and contact your representatives here.

We have also created some materials to help you take your advocacy to the next level. Here are some resources to help you advocate:
